UNILORIN Admission Requirements 2026
1. JAMB Score and First Choice
All candidates must score at least 180 in the JAMB UTME 2026 and must have chosen the University of Ilorin as their first-choice institution. UNILORIN does not admit second-choice candidates in the main admission round. If UNILORIN is currently your second choice, log in to the JAMB portal and request a ‘Change of Institution’ before the Post-UTME deadline.
2. O-Level Requirements
- Minimum of five (5) credit passes in WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB
- Credits must be obtained in not more than two (2) sittings
- English Language and Mathematics are compulsory for most courses
- For Medicine, Nursing, and health-related courses: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and English Language
- For Engineering: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and English Language
- For Computer Science: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or Biology, and English
- For Law: English Language, Literature in English or Government, Economics or Mathematics, and two relevant subjects
- For Agriculture: Biology or Agricultural Science, Chemistry, and other Science subjects
- One sitting only for Medicine: Single-sitting O-Level results are strongly preferred (and may be required) for Medicine, Pharmacy, and Optometry, verify on the UNILORIN portal
3. Post-UTME Screening
All eligible candidates must register for and sit the UNILORIN Post-UTME screening. Key details:
- Format: Computer-Based Test (CBT) 50 multiple-choice questions
- Coverage: Use of English and subjects relevant to your chosen course
- Duration: Approximately 1–2 hours

4. Catchment Area Advantage
UNILORIN gives preference to candidates from the Middle Belt and North Central regions (including Kwara State, Kogi, Benue, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, and the FCT). Candidates from catchment states may benefit from a slightly lower aggregate score threshold than the general Merit list. If you are from these states, confirm whether your aggregate meets the catchment cut-off for your course.
Practical Admission Strategy: How to Get Into UNILORIN
- Choose UNILORIN as your JAMB first choice: UNILORIN does not admit second-choice candidates in the main round. Make it your first choice without exception.
- Match your course to your score: Many candidates lose admission by selecting courses far above their performance level. With 180–190, target Education, Agriculture, and low-competition Arts. With 200–220, target Engineering, Management, and Social Sciences. With 240+, target Law, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Electrical Engineering.
- Upload O-Level results to JAMB CAPS immediately: If your O-Level results are not uploaded to the JAMB CAPS portal, you will not be considered for admission even if your JAMB score is high. Do this as soon as your results are available.
- Prepare intensively for Post-UTME: Post-UTME contributes 30% to your aggregate. A weak Post-UTME can undermine a strong JAMB score. Study UNILORIN CBT past questions, focus on your subject combination, and improve your speed and accuracy.
- Aim for one-sitting O-Level: For Medicine, Pharmacy, and Optometry, one-sitting O-Level is strongly preferred and may be required. For all competitive courses, a single-sitting result eliminates a potential disadvantage.
- Use the correct JAMB subject combination: UNILORIN is strict with subject combinations. Check the JAMB brochure at jamb.gov.ng before registering, as an incorrect combination disqualifies you regardless of your score.
- Consider catchment advantage: If you are from a North Central or Middle Belt state, confirm whether the catchment cut-off for your course is within your aggregate range.
- Monitor the portal regularly: Check unilorin.edu.ng and JAMB CAPS for Post-UTME registration dates, admission list releases, and updates throughout the cycle.
- Accept your offer promptly: When the admission list is released, accept on JAMB CAPS within the stated deadline and complete your UNILORIN registration without delay.
