These figures are estimates based on CONPASS pay bands referenced in current recruitment sources; NSIWC has not published a single official circular listing the exact salaries for every FRSC rank. See the confirmed-versus-unconfirmed section below before treating any figure as final.
What Determines FRSC Salary
FRSC pay is administered under CONPASS, the same framework used by the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Nigeria Customs Service, the Nigerian Correctional Service, the Federal Fire Service, and the NSCDC. Four factors determine what an individual officer takes home each month.
Entry qualification: your highest certificate at the point of application, whether O’level, ND, NCE, HND, or a degree, decides which cadre and grade level you start on.
Rank: Each rank corresponds to a specific CONPASS grade level and has its own approved salary band.
Length of service: annual reviews result in step increases in basic pay, even without a promotion.
Allowances: housing, transport, hazard, uniform, medical, and other approved allowances are added to the basic salary and can raise total take-home by roughly 40 to 60 percent.
Allowances on Top of Basic Salary
- Housing Allowance for officers not in government accommodation
- Transport Allowance covers commuting and official travel.
- Hazard/Operational Allowance paid to officers on active highway patrol and crash response duty.
- Uniform Allowance annual payment for maintaining the official kit
- Medical Allowance: healthcare cost support for the officer and eligible dependants
- Leave Allowance is a yearly lump sum paid when proceeding on annual leave.
- Duty Tour Allowance (DTA) covers costs when traveling away from a duty station on assignment.
- Furniture Allowance paid at defined career milestones.
What Is Confirmed and What Is Not
Confirmed: the Federal Government approved a new national minimum wage of ₦70,000 in September 2024, and CONPASS, along with other public sector salary structures, received a consequential adjustment. This means no entry-level FRSC officer should earn below ₦70,000 in basic monthly salary.
Not yet confirmed: NSIWC has not published a single official circular listing the exact basic salary for every individual FRSC rank. The figures in the table above are informed estimates compiled from CONPASS pay bands and recruitment guides, and they vary slightly between sources. Treat any specific naira figure as indicative rather than final until FRSC or NSIWC issues an official pay circular.
What remains constant: the salary structure is not static. As officers are promoted up the rank ladder, both basic salary and allowances increase, making FRSC one of the more stable federal paramilitary careers to build a long-term income around.
