The Nigerian Army Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) Recruitment 2026/2027 application form is now open. About the Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC)
What is DSSC?
The Direct Short Service Commission is a special military enlistment program that:
- Allows professionals with specialised skills to join at the mid-level officer rank
- Provides a fast-track route for qualified graduates
- Offers comprehensive military training in a shorter time
- Grants officer commission upon completion of training
- Provides 15-year service with the possibility of conversion to Direct Regular Commission (DRC)
Difference Between DSSC and SSC
Both DSSC and SSC are for graduates, but:
DSSC (Direct Short Service Commission): Higher age limit – suitable for those up to 35 years (some sources: 30-32)
SSC (Short Service Commission): Lower age limit – for younger people not older than 28 years
Note: DSSC and SSC always come out together, but are NOT the same.
Physical Requirements
- Height – Male: Minimum 1.68 meters
- Height – Female: Minimum 1.65 meters
- Physical Fitness: Must meet Nigerian Army standards for physical fitness
- Mental Wellness: Must be mentally fit
- Medical Fitness: Must be medically fit according to NA standards
- Swimming: Candidates with the ability to swim have an added advantage
Professional Registration
Requirement: Graduates with professional degrees must be appropriately registered by the relevant regulatory agencies recognised by Nigerian Laws before beginning cadet training.
Examples: NSE, COREN (Engineers), MDCN (Medical Doctors), Pharmacist Council (Pharmacists), Nursing Council (Nurses), etc.
Referees and Attestation
Requirement: Must be supported and attested for good character by a minimum of TWO recognised referees who are:
- Local Government Chairman/Secretary of the applicant’s state of origin, OR
- Member of the Armed Forces not below the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and equivalent, OR
- Assistant Commissioner of Police or higher
- Important: The letter of attestation must include passport photographs of referees. Referees must be from the applicant’s state of origin.
- Previous Institution Attestation
- Requirement: Previous institutions must provide an attestation letter.
Service Personnel Requirements
- Must present a valid military identity card
- Must present letters of recommendation from commanding officers/commanders
- Must have served for not less than 5 years
- Must present valid letter(s) of service sponsorship to tertiary institutions (where applicable)

- All academic qualifications/credentials (primary to post-secondary)
- Birth certificate (endorsed by National Population Commission, hospital, or local government) OR valid age declaration
Valid State of Origin certificate
- NYSC Discharge Certificate OR valid Exemption Certificate
- Evidence of professional organisation membership (where applicable)
- Government-issued photo ID
- Letters of attestation from two referees (with their passport photos)
- Letter of attestation from the previous institution
- Military ID and commander’s recommendation (for serving personnel)

Qualifications: Minimum B.Sc (Eng), B.Eng (Second Class Upper), or HND (Lower Credit) in:

- Registration: Must be registered with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) or relevant professional bodies.
2. Nigerian Army Signals
Qualifications: Minimum B.Sc (Second Class Lower) or HND (Lower Credit) in:

a. Medical and Dental Consultants
Fields: General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Anaesthesia, Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, ENT Surgery, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Pediatrics, Medicine, Psychiatry, Radiology, Pathology, Family Medicine.
Requirement: Must have completed training and possess a Fellowship from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria or the West Africa College of Physicians and Surgeons.
b. Medical Doctors (Non-Consultants)
Qualification: MBBS or equivalent
Registration: Must be fully registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN)
c. Nurses
Requirements: Must be registered nurses in specialities: Midwifery, Pediatrics, Orthopaedics, Anaesthetics, Nephrology, Accident & Emergency. Must be fully registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
d. Professionals Allied to Medicine
Fields: Optometry, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmacy, Dental Technology, Health Administration & Management, Medical Laboratory Science, Radiography, Physiotherapy, Health Information Management, Nutrition & Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Clinical Psychology.
Pharmacists: Must possess Bachelor of Pharmacy and be fully registered with the Pharmacist Council of Nigeria.

Qualifications: Minimum B.Eng, B.Sc (Eng), or HND (Lower Credit) in:

- Service Period: DSSC granted for 15 years

Step 5: Receive Login Details
Upon successful registration, you will receive an email with login details.
