About Nigerian Navy

The Nigerian Navy (NN) is the Nigerian Armed Forces naval branch that operates in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Navy has a fleet of 75 warships, including the Thunder and Aradu frigates. It is ranked as the fifth strongest navy in Africa, following South Africa, Egypt, Algeria, and Morocco.

In 1957, the HMNS Quorra became the first Basic Training establishment for the Nigerian Navy. It began with 60 junior ratings who underwent a six-month Basic Seamanship course. Two years later, in July 1959, Queen Elizabeth II granted the Nigerian Naval Force permission to use the title “Royal Nigerian Navy,” making it a full-fledged Navy. However, after Nigeria became a republic in 1963, the title was changed to the “Nigerian Navy.”

Recruitment Process

The Nigerian Navy Basic Training School recruitment process consists of an online application and a screening process. It begins with print and electronic media advertisements to create awareness among the general public.
