About The Nigeria Customs Service

The Nigerian Customs Service was established in 1891 to collect revenue, account for it, and prevent smuggling. Today, it plays a crucial role in trade facilitation and is an essential element of economic policy.

However, with the growing international trade and increased economic crime, money laundering, and terrorism, the Nigerian Customs Service faces new challenges and an enlarged role.

Its mission is to provide efficient and effective services that promote trade competitiveness, while its vision is to excel in revenue collection, trade facilitation, and protection of Nigerian society. The Nigerian Customs Service has core and other functions as part of its statutory responsibilities.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seven departments overseen by a Comptroller-General, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and assisted by seven Deputy Comptrollers-Generals

The departments include the following:

  2. Tariff & Trade
  3. Enforcement, Investigation, and Inspection
