Nigeria Police Recruitment Portal 2026/2027 (npfapplication.psc.gov.ng): Requirements and How to Apply

The Police Service Commission (PSC) recruits constables into the Nigeria Police Force through one official portal: npfapplication.psc.gov.ng. This guide covers the status of the latest exercise, the requirements for General Duty and Specialist constables, how to apply on the police recruitment portal, the guarantor form, each selection stage, the constable salary, and how to stay away from recruitment scams.

Is the Police Recruitment Portal Open? (October 2026)

No. The 2025/2026 exercise to recruit 50,000 constables has finished. The portal opened on 15 December 2025 and closed on 8 February 2026 after a two-week extension. The PSC released the list of successful candidates on 16 July 2026 and handed the 50,000 recruits to the Nigeria Police Force on 6 August 2026 for training. No new exercise has been announced. When one opens, the PSC will publish it on psc.gov.ng and in national newspapers.

Who Runs Police Recruitment?

By law, the Police Service Commission recruits constables, working with the Nigeria Police Force through a joint committee. The PSC is chaired by DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), and the Inspector-General of Police is Tunji Disu, sworn in on 4 March 2026. The 2025/2026 exercise followed a presidential directive that raised the target to 50,000 constables.

Police Recruitment Requirements

All applicants must be Nigerian by birth, medically, physically and psychologically fit, and hold a valid 11-digit National Identification Number (NIN). Women must not be pregnant at entry or during training. Your name on the portal must match your NIN record exactly.

How to Apply on npfapplication.psc.gov.ng

When the next window opens, apply yourself. The PSC warns against agents and cyber cafés that charge for applications. The steps on the last portal were:

1. Go to npfapplication.psc.gov.ng and enter your NIN. The portal pulls your bio-data from NIMC.
2. Complete your profile, including your state and LGA of origin, birth and residence.
3. Upload clear scans as .jpg files: passport photograph (200 KB or less) and other documents (2 MB or less each).
4. Click Final Submission, check every detail on the preview page, then submit. Applications left on the preview page are treated as incomplete.
5. Print your confirmation slip by entering your NIN.
6. Print the guarantor form from the portal, get it filled and signed, and attach your guarantor’s ID photocopy and passport photographs.

Common portal errors

• “Invalid NIN” or “No record found”: check that you typed all 11 digits correctly. If the error stays, confirm your NIN with NIMC.
• Name mismatch: the name you enter must match your NIN record. Correct your NIN details with NIMC before applying.
• Upload rejected: reduce the file size or re-scan the document more clearly in .jpg format.
• Missing state or LGA of residence: fill every field before final submission.

Selection Stages

1. Physical and credentials screening: bring your invitation slip, submission slip, guarantor form, NIN slip, original O’Level certificate, birth certificate, LGA certificate and photocopies in two white flat files. The 2026 dress code was a white shirt, white shorts and canvas shoes.
2. Written examination: held in every state for applicants who pass screening. Print your exam invitation card from the portal and bring it with your NIN slip and a pen.
3. Successful candidates list: published on the portal. Successful applicants are also notified by email and SMS.
4. Training: recruits report to a Police Training School for documentation and a medical check, then train for about six months. Anyone who fails the medical or does not report on time loses the place.

Police Constable Salary

Constables are paid under the Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS). The PSC does not publish the table. Estimates put a new constable’s basic pay at about ₦48,000 to ₦62,000 a month, before allowances such as the 20% peculiar allowance added in 2022. When Does Police Recruitment Open?

There is no fixed date. Recent exercises have opened in December, and searches for the police recruitment portal peak in December and January. Because the 50,000 recruits from the last exercise have not yet started training, a new exercise is not expected until the PSC announces one. Do not trust any portal link that has not been announced on psc.gov.ng.

Beware of Police Recruitment Scams

Police recruitment is free of charge at every stage. In January 2026 the PSC warned that some cyber cafés and agents were charging ₦15,000 or more to apply for people, and asked the public to report them. Report any demand for money to the nearest police station or to the PSC on 0705 499 2071 (SMS or WhatsApp only). The PSC announces recruitment only through psc.gov.ng, its press releases and national newspapers.
