NECO GCE Timetable 2026 (Nov/Dec): Full Exam Dates, Registration and Results

Last updated: 21 October 2026

The NECO GCE timetable for 2026 is out. The National Examinations Council (NECO) has fixed the SSCE External examination, popularly called NECO GCE, for Wednesday 4 November to Saturday 21 November 2026. The exam opens with Marketing and closes with Government. Normal registration ends on Monday 26 October 2026 at midnight, so candidates who have not registered have only a few days left before the late fee applies.

This guide gives the full day-by-day timetable, the registration fees and deadlines, what to bring on exam day, and what to expect when results come out.

Key dates and fees at a glance

Who should sit the exam

The SSCE External is for private candidates, people who are no longer in secondary school. Most candidates fall into one of three groups. Some failed one or more key subjects, usually English Language or Mathematics, in their school WAEC or NECO and need the credits for admission. Others need a particular subject for a course change, such as Biology or Chemistry for a science course. A third group never sat a school certificate exam and want an O’Level result for jobs, recruitment exercises or further study.

The NECO GCE certificate carries the same weight as the internal SSCE. Universities, polytechnics and JAMB accept it, and many candidates combine it with a WAEC result for admission. If you are already in the admission process, see our JAMB CAPS login guide on how to upload your O’Level result on time.

Full NECO GCE 2026 timetable

All papers run on weekdays and Saturdays. There are no papers on Sunday 8 November or Sunday 15 November. Most days start at 10:00am with the objective paper, followed by the essay paper. Science and Agriculture practical papers hold in the afternoon from 2:00pm.

NECO can make small changes to the timetable. Download the official PDF from www.neco.gov.ng and confirm the date and time of each of your papers a few days before the exam.

Key dates for the core subjects

• English Language: Saturday 14 November (objective, essay and Test of Orals on the same day).
• General Mathematics: Wednesday 18 November (objective 10:00am, essay from 12:00 noon).
• Biology: Thursday 19 November. Chemistry: Thursday 12 November. Physics: Monday 16 November.
• Economics: Tuesday 17 November. Government: Saturday 21 November, the last day.

Subjects you can register for

The 2026 timetable covers 16 subjects: Accounting, Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry, Christian Religious Studies, Civic Education, Commerce, Economics, English Language, General Mathematics, Geography, Government, Islamic Studies, Literature in English, Marketing and Physics. Further Mathematics and Data Processing do not appear on this timetable, so candidates who need them should plan for the next cycle or another exam body.

You do not have to sit all your subjects again. Many candidates register for just the two or three subjects they need. The usual minimum for admission is five credits, including English Language and Mathematics, in no more than two sittings.

Registration fees and deadlines

NECO’s payment page lists the SSCE External fee at ₦27,000 (payment code 8202). Remita and bank charges are added on top. NECO does not refund registration fees, so check your subjects and details before you pay.

How to register

1. Go to www.neco.gov.ng and click the SSCE External link, which takes you to ssceexternal.neco.gov.ng.
2. Create an account with a working email address and phone number.
3. Enter your National Identification Number (NIN). Registration does not go through without it.
4. Fill in your bio-data exactly as it appears on your NIN and birth certificate.
5. Choose your exam town and centre, then select your subjects.
6. Upload a recent passport photograph and your fingerprints at an accredited registration centre where required.
7. Pay through Remita and print your photocard and registration slip.
8. Get the photocard attestation signed and stamped by an eligible referee, such as a civil servant or a school principal.

You are allowed to correct your details once after upload. Do not register twice: NECO treats double registration as malpractice and can cancel the whole result.

What to take to the exam hall

• Your printed photocard. You will not be allowed into the hall without it.
• Pens, pencils, an eraser and a ruler. Bring a non-programmable calculator for Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Accounting, and a mathematical set for Mathematics and Geography.
• Arrive at least one hour early on CBT days so your fingerprint can be checked and your system assigned.
• Leave phones, smart watches and other devices outside. Being caught with one can lead to the cancellation of your result.

When results come out

NECO has not announced a release date for the 2026 SSCE External results. As a guide, the 2025 November/December results came out on 3 February 2026, about seven weeks after the last paper. When they are released, you can check them online with a result token. Our NECO result checker guide shows how to buy the token and check your result step by step.

If you also wrote WAEC, see how to check your WAEC result. Candidates planning ahead for the WAEC private exam can follow the WAEC GCE timetable.

Watch out for fake “expo” and “runs” offers

Every exam season, people sell so-called “expo” or “runs” that claim to have the questions in advance. These are scams. Candidates pay and get nothing, or get caught with fake answers and lose their result. Register only on the official NECO portal and never pay anyone who promises leaked questions or a guaranteed grade.
