Understanding the UNIPORT Cut-Off Mark System
UNIPORT uses a two-level cut-off system. Understanding both levels is essential for realistic admission planning.
Level 1: General JAMB Cut-Off (160)
The general JAMB cut-off of 160 is the eligibility threshold. Any candidate who scored below 160 cannot participate in UNIPORT’s Post-UTME screening, regardless of other qualifications. Scoring exactly 160 makes you eligible only for courses at or near the general minimum it is not sufficient for competitive programs.
Level 2: Departmental Cut-Off (Moving Score)
After Post-UTME, candidates for each course are ranked by aggregate score from highest to lowest. Admission offers go to the top-ranked candidates until spaces are filled. The lowest aggregate among admitted candidates becomes that course’s effective cut-off for that year. Because this figure depends on annual competition, departmental cut-offs are not fixed, and UNIPORT does not publish them in advance.

O-Level Requirements for UNIPORT 2026/2027
All candidates must present a minimum of five (5) O-Level credit passes in relevant subjects from WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB, obtained in not more than two (2) sittings. Credits must include English Language and Mathematics. Course-specific requirements are as follows:
- Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Dentistry: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and English Language
- Engineering (all disciplines): Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and English Language
- Computer Science: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry (or Biology), and English Language
- Law: English Language, Literature in English, Government (or History), and three other relevant subjects
- Accounting and Economics: Mathematics, Economics, English Language, and two other relevant subjects
- Agriculture: Chemistry, Biology (or Agricultural Science), Physics (or Mathematics), and English Language
- Arts and Humanities: English Language, Literature (or relevant Arts subjects), and three other credits
- Education: Credits in your teaching subjects plus English confirm specific combination in the JAMB brochure
How to Maximize Your Chances of UNIPORT Admission
- Choose UNIPORT as your JAMB first choice: UNIPORT does not accept second-choice candidates. You must select UNIPORT as your first choice on JAMB.
- Target above the departmental benchmark: The general cut-off of 160 is the floor. For competitive courses, your practical target is 40–100+ marks above the departmental estimate.
- Prepare seriously for Post-UTME: Post-UTME contributes 40% to your aggregate. A weak Post-UTME performance can cost you admission even with a strong JAMB score and a strong Post-UTME can overcome a moderate JAMB score.
- Ensure correct JAMB subjects: An incorrect JAMB subject combination disqualifies you from your target course regardless of your score. Verify in the current JAMB brochure at jamb.gov.ng.
- Strong O-Level results matter: Credits in all compulsory subjects for your course are required. Weak O-Level grades can undermine your candidacy, even with good JAMB and Post-UTME scores.
- Upload O-Level results to JAMB CAPS: Ensure your WAEC/NECO results are uploaded to the JAMB CAPS portal before screening. Failure to do so can stall your admission processing.
- Know your Post-UTME subjects: The CBT tests subjects related to your chosen course. Focus on those subjects specifically, not just general knowledge.
- Consider course alternatives: If your score is 200–220, avoid applying for Medicine, Petroleum Engineering, and Computer Science, where the competition is extremely intense. Target departments where your score places you competitively.
