The Federal Fire Service (FFS) fire service shortlist for the current exercise is on the CDCFIB recruitment portal, recruitment.cdcfib.gov.ng. The Fire Service recruits through the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) with the other three Ministry of Interior services. Candidates have passed through the CBT, physical screening and oral interviews. The final list of successful candidates is not out yet.

This guide covers how to check your status, the stages so far, the Fire Service ranks in this exercise and what to prepare.

The Board calls this its 2024/2025 recruitment exercise. In August 2026 it said the exercise had reached its final stage, with results to be published on the portal.

Is the Federal Fire Service list out?

The CBT, screening and oral interview stages have each had a shortlist on the CDCFIB portal. The final list is still pending. Older posts that point to a separate Fire Service portal for this exercise are out of date: candidates check their status on the CDCFIB dashboard.

How to check Federal Fire Service shortlisted candidates

  1. Go to recruitment.cdcfib.gov.ng, the only portal for this exercise. Type the address yourself.
  2. Log in with the details you used to apply, including your Application Number.
  3. Read the status message on your dashboard. It shows the stage your application has reached.
  4. If the portal gives you a slip or a next step, print or save it.

PDF lists passed around on social media are often from earlier years. Your dashboard is the official record.

Fire Service ranks in this exercise

These were the Fire Service posts in the 2025 advert:

Rank (grade)Qualification in the 2025 advert
Assistant Superintendent I (CONPASS 09)Law, or B.Sc in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical or Water Engineering
Assistant Superintendent II (CONPASS 08)B.Sc or HND
Inspector (CONHESS 06)RN, RM or RN/RM (nursing and midwifery)
Assistant Inspector (CONPASS 06)ND or NCE
Assistant II and III (CONPASS 04 and 03)Five or four O’Level credits, or Trade Test Grade II/III (drivers, artisans, appliance operators)

Fire Service officers fight fires, run rescue operations, inspect buildings for fire safety and train the public. Fitness and calm under pressure matter, so keep training while you wait.

What to prepare while you wait

  • Original documents: NIN slip, birth certificate or court age declaration, LGA identification letter, O’Level result(s) and your highest qualification.
  • Your acknowledgment slip and every slip the portal gave you.
  • The same name and date of birth on your NIN and every certificate.

Read the Federal Fire Service recruitment guide for requirements and pay, the CDCFIB recruitment portal guide for the next window, and the CDCFIB shortlist page for updates across all four services.

Why some candidates fall out late

Competition is tight. Around 1.9 million people applied across the four CDCFIB services for about 30,000 places, so many candidates who reached the Fire Service oral interview will not get a final offer. Avoidable problems also remove people late in the process:

  • Details that do not match between your NIN, birth certificate and certificates.
  • Multiple applications, which lead to disqualification.
  • Missed screening or interview slots.
  • Missing professional proof. Engineering, nursing and driver posts need the right licence or professional certificate, and the Board checks them.

Not on the final Fire Service list?

Keep your Application Number, slips and documents in case the Board releases a supplementary list. Then prepare for the next exercise. The 2025 advert set an age range of 18 to 35, a minimum height of 1.65 m for men and 1.60 m for women, and medical fitness. For Fire Service roles, a valid driver’s licence, a trade test certificate or first-aid training can strengthen your next application, especially for appliance operator and driver posts. If you have served as a volunteer or with a state fire service, keep proof of that experience as well.

The next Federal Fire Service recruitment will be announced on recruitment.cdcfib.gov.ng and the Service’s official channels. A form link anywhere else is not genuine.

Beware of scams

Recruitment into the Federal Fire Service through CDCFIB is free at every stage. Nobody can add your name to a shortlist or the final list for money, and the Board does not ask for “verification” fees. Ignore messages that ask for payment or your login details.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the Federal Fire Service shortlist?

On recruitment.cdcfib.gov.ng, under your own dashboard. Log in with your Application Number.

Has the Fire Service final list been released?

No. The Board has said the results will be published on the portal.

Is the Federal Fire Service form out?

No. A new form will open only after this exercise ends.

Do drivers and artisans have posts in the Fire Service?

Yes. The Assistant III grade covered drivers, artisans and appliance operators with four O’Level credits or a Trade Test certificate.

Can I check my Fire Service status with my NIN?

The portal asks for the Application Number generated when you registered (and the password you set), not your NIN.

How many places are there?

Roughly 30,000 across the four CDCFIB services, from about 1.9 million applicants. A separate Fire Service figure has not been published.

Will the final list come as a PDF?

Results go on the portal. If a PDF is shared later, treat your own dashboard as the record that counts.

Who runs the Federal Fire Service?

The Federal Fire Service is under the Ministry of Interior, and its recruitment, promotion and discipline are handled by CDCFIB.
