This guide lists the 2026/2027 NYSC registration requirements, the documents you need, the current fee, the new NIN and NERD rules, and the step-by-step process on the official portal, portal.nysc.org.ng.

Who Can Register for NYSC?
- Graduates of Nigerian universities and polytechnics (HND) whose names are on their institution’s Senate or Academic Board-approved list. See our guide on how to check the NYSC senate list.
- Nigerian graduates of foreign institutions who pass NYSC’s physical verification.
- Graduates aged 30 or below at graduation. Those over 30 at graduation are exempted and receive an Exemption Certificate instead.
- Part-time graduates do not serve. They register online only to print an exclusion letter.
Documents and Details You Need
- A working email address and a Nigerian phone number you can access
- Your correct matriculation number
- Your National Identification Number (NIN). The name on your NIN must match the name on your Statement of Result
- Your JAMB registration number. You must be on JAMB’s matriculation list, and your JAMB name must match your Statement of Result
- Your NERD clearance slip (see below)
- A recent passport photograph (details below)
- Your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB details, in case you need to correct your date of birth
- Married women: marriage certificate, proof of change of name, and the husband’s place of domicile
- Medical report, if you are applying on health grounds
Passport photograph rules
NYSC’s registration guidelines require a 2 by 2 inch photo with a white or off-white background. Your full face (eyes, nose, ears, mouth and jaw) must be clearly visible, centred, well lit and not tilted, with no shadows. A poor photo is one of the most common reasons registrations are rejected.
New in 2026: NERD clearance
NYSC now requires clearance from the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD) before mobilisation. Director-General Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu announced the rule in May 2026, and in August NYSC posted on X: “No NERD clearance, No NYSC”. You upload your final-year project or thesis to the NERD platform and print the clearance slip. Our guide to the NERD registration portal explains the steps, and your school’s Student Affairs or NYSC unit will tell you any extra requirements for your institution, so ask them early.
NYSC Registration Fee
NYSC’s official mobilisation guidelines set the fee at ₦2,786.24, paid through Remita. It covers the SMS call-up number and online printing of your call-up letter. Graduates who paid in an earlier batch but were not mobilised do not pay again. Cyber cafés charge their own service fees for helping with biometrics and uploads, but these are not NYSC fees.
How to Register on the NYSC Portal (Step by Step)
- Confirm that your name is on your institution’s senate list.
- Go to portal.nysc.org.ng and start pre-registration with your email and phone number.
- Capture your fingerprints. NYSC supports only the Digital Persona U.are.U 4500 scanner with the NYSC Biometric Client. Remember which fingers you used, because NYSC checks them again at camp.
- Fill in your personal and academic details, including NIN, JAMB number and matriculation number.
- Upload your passport photograph, plus marriage documents if they apply to you.
- Pay the registration fee through Remita.
- Print your registration slip from your dashboard.
- When NYSC announces call-up printing, log in and print your call-up letter. It shows your state of deployment and camp.
Register yourself. NYSC does not allow proxy registration, and using false documents leads to demobilisation and prosecution.
Foreign-Trained Graduates
Nigerians who studied abroad must attend physical verification before registration. For Batch C 2026, verification held from 8 to 12 September at nine centres: Enugu, Bauchi, FCT, Kano, Lagos, Osun, Rivers, Sokoto and Adamawa. Bring:
- Original degree or HND certificate and full transcript
- O’Level result with at least five credits including English and Mathematics, in not more than two sittings
- International passport data pages, plus the pages showing your entry visa, departure and return
- Professional licence, for medical and health graduates
NYSC does not accept statements of result, attestation letters, scanned or downloaded certificates, or online-course certificates from foreign-trained graduates.
Exemption and Exclusion
Graduates who were over 30 years old at graduation do not serve. They receive an Exemption Certificate. Part-time and sandwich graduates receive an Exclusion Letter. Both groups still register online, then print their certificate or letter. Part-time graduates of the current batch can register until 20 October 2026.
NYSC Allowance
Corps members receive a monthly allowance of ₦77,000. The rise from ₦33,000 was approved in September 2024, and payment at the new rate started in March 2025.
Mistakes That Delay Mobilisation
- Names that do not match across NIN, JAMB and the Statement of Result
- Not having NERD clearance
- Forgetting which fingers you captured
- A dark, tilted or coloured-background passport photo
- Using an email or phone number you cannot access later
- Paying agents who promise “special posting”. NYSC does not sell postings or redeployment
