The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) is the agency responsible for the management, supervision, and development of primary and basic education across Oyo State. About the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board
Oyo State began its primary education board in 1994 with the creation of the State Primary Education Board (SPEB) under Edict No. 2. Following the Federal Government’s Universal Basic Education (UBE) Act in 2004, the board was reconstituted as the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), aligning with the national framework for free and compulsory basic education.
Oyo SUBEB’s objectives include providing free, high-quality education to all children in Oyo State, reducing school dropout rates, ensuring that students acquire foundational literacy and numeracy skills, and maintaining education systems and policies aligned with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) standards.
The executive chairman, Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, has announced the board’s plan to recruit 7,000 new teachers for public primary schools across the state, a hiring drive expected to address at least 75% of the current teacher shortage, as well as 100 caregivers for special schools.
