Kwara State Teachers (SUBEB) 2026/2027 Shortlisted Candidates
Last updated:
Last updated: 15 October 2026
Kwara State has no open teacher recruitment for 2026/2027, and no new shortlist has been published. The most recent list came in January 2025, when the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KWSUBEB) selected 1,811 candidates from 55,713 applicants for primary and basic schools. Kwara also has a separate body, the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), which recruits for secondary schools. This page explains how both work, what the last shortlist looked like and where the next one will appear.
The shortlist is free. Kwara State does not charge applicants for forms, tests or slots. Never pay anyone who promises to put your name on a shortlist, and use only official Kwara State Government channels.
SUBEB or TESCOM: Which Body Recruits Which Teachers?
| Body | Schools covered | Latest exercise found |
| KWSUBEB (State Universal Basic Education Board) | Public primary and basic schools | Announced August 2024 (1,600 vacancies); 1,811 successful candidates announced 7 January 2025 |
| TESCOM (Teaching Service Commission) | Public senior secondary schools | Announced January 2025 (1,800 teachers, 100 non-teaching staff, 200 security guards); drug tests held in April 2025 |
If you want a primary school post, the SUBEB lists matter most to you. If you want a secondary school post, follow TESCOM. A shortlist from one body does not apply to the other.

Current Status: 2026/2027
I found no 2026/2027 recruitment notice from either KWSUBEB or TESCOM. In October 2026, the SUBEB chairman, Prof. Sheu Raheem Adaramaja, spoke about the 2026 teacher promotion exercise, not new hiring. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has listed merit-based recruitment among his education reforms, but he has not announced any new vacancy numbers or dates.
Kwara has recruited regularly, so a new round is possible. It is not confirmed, and any list you see circulating before an official notice should be treated as unverified.
The Last SUBEB Exercise: What Happened
The 2024/2025 SUBEB exercise is the best guide to how the next one may run.
- August 2024: The board announced 1,600 vacancies, including 695 B.Ed holders, 605 NCE holders, 200 security guards and 111 other non-teaching staff.
- Recruitment was community-based. The board assessed needs across the 16 local government areas and favoured people willing to serve in rural communities.
- Successful candidates had to sign a five-year bond not to transfer from their posts.
- 55,713 people applied.
- On 7 January 2025, the board announced 1,811 successful candidates: 1,500 teachers, mostly in STEM subjects, and 311 non-teaching staff such as drivers, security guards and office assistants.
- TESCOM contacted candidates with valid phone numbers directly about their appointment letters.
- Documentation was staggered by region: Kwara North on 6 January, Kwara South on 7 January and Kwara Central on 8 January 2025.
The TESCOM Exercise for Secondary School
In January 2025, TESCOM announced it would hire 1,800 teachers for senior secondary schools, prioritising rural areas and STEM subjects. Applicants applied online, and applicants whose subjects were not on the portal were told not to apply. The position required a degree in Education, or a relevant degree plus a teaching certificate such as a PGDE or NCE, and shortlisted applicants had to be no older than 35.
Shortlisted candidates also took a drug test run with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). In April 2025, TESCOM chairman, Bello Taoheed Abubakar, said eight selected candidates were disqualified after testing positive for substances. They replaced them with the next best-performing candidates in their local government areas.
Lessons From Earlier Exercises
Kwara’s record shows that the state treats teacher recruitment seriously. In December 2020, the governor dismissed 2,414 teachers who had been hired into SUBEB in 2018 after the state said an investigation found irregularities, including missing teaching certificates. In January 2023, the board filled 600 vacancies using candidates from its 2021 exercise and made no new call for applications. Both episodes show that the board can fill from an existing database, and your documents will be checked closely.
