Teacher recruitment in Katsina State runs through two separate bodies, and knowing which one you applied to is the first step in checking your status. The Katsina State Universal Basic Education Board, known as SUBEB, manages primary and junior secondary education across the state’s 34 local government areas and recruits primary school teachers. The Katsina State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, known as MBASE, handles secondary school teachers. In the 2026 exercise the two ran side by side, offering 1,500 primary school vacancies through SUBEB and 658 secondary school vacancies through MBASE, a combined total of 2,158 teaching positions.

The scale of the exercise reflects how much demand there is for teaching jobs in the state. When the application window was close to its end, the SUBEB listing alone had drawn more than 26,000 applications for its 1,500 vacancies. The recruitment listing describes the jobs as permanent government employment with a structured career path and regular promotional examinations, and the state has set up Teachers’ Development Training Centres in Katsina, Daura, and Funtua to support continuous professional training.

Current Recruitment Status

The shortlist has been released. After the application window closed on 9 April 2026, the state published the list of shortlisted candidates for the teachers’ recruitment on the Katsina SEMIS portal, together with the Computer Based Test slip that shortlisted candidates need to download. This means the next stage for shortlisted candidates is the CBT, not a job offer. A final list of successful candidates after the CBT has not been independently confirmed at the time of writing, so candidates who sat the test should keep watching the portal and their registered email for the next announcement.

Vacancies at a Glance

BodyWho It RecruitsVacanciesMinimum Qualification
SUBEBPrimary school teachers only1,500NCE in a relevant field
MBASESecondary school teachers only658B.Ed or equivalent, with M.Ed an advantage

Both applications closed on 9 April 2026 and both cover the state’s 34 local government areas. The 1,500 SUBEB vacancies were spread unevenly across the Local Government Education Authorities. In the listing I could see, Batsari and Safana had the most vacancies at 71 each, followed by Mashi, Danja, and Matazu at 56 to 57 each, while Zango had just 8, Daura 15, and Maiadua 16. Because the spread is uneven, the LGEA you applied under may affect how competitive your slot is.

How to Check Your Shortlist Status and Download Your CBT Slip

1. Go to the Katsina SEMIS portal, HERE, and open the shortlisted candidates page.

2. Choose the option to download your exam slip.

3. Enter your exam code and the email address you used when you applied.

4. Check that your name, LGEA, exam date, venue, and time are correct, then download and print the slip.

5. Keep your exam code and email details safe, since you will need them to retrieve the slip again if you lose it.

If you cannot find your name, first confirm that you are checking the right route. A primary school applicant and a secondary school applicant applied through different bodies, and the shortlist page covers teachers for both primary and secondary schools, so make sure you are looking at the correct category.

General Requirements Based on Past Katsina Cycles

  • Must be a Nigerian citizen.
  • A minimum of the National Certificate in Education for primary school roles, and a B.Ed or equivalent for secondary school roles.
  • An NYSC discharge or exemption certificate for graduates.
  • A birth certificate or an age declaration certificate.
  • Certification as medically fit for work by a recognised government hospital.
  • Willingness to be deployed to any part of the state.

What to Prepare Before the CBT and Screening

  • Your printed CBT exam slip, with your exam code.
  • A valid means of identification.
  • Original and photocopies of your academic and professional certificates.
  • Your NYSC certificate, birth or age declaration certificate, and medical fitness report.
  • A printout of your application confirmation.

The exact documents for the screening stage will be stated by the state when invitations are issued, so treat this list as preparation guidance and follow the official instructions once they are published.

What Happens After the Shortlist

Being shortlisted means you cleared the application stage and are invited to sit the CBT. Only candidates who perform well in the test and pass the later verification stages will appear on any final list of successful candidates. Prepare for the test seriously, and do not treat the shortlist as the finish line.

No Payment Required

Katsina State teacher recruitment has not been described as requiring any payment, whether to apply, download an exam slip, or sit the test. Do not pay anyone who claims they can add your name to the shortlist, raise your CBT score, or secure a posting. Treat any such request as fraudulent and rely only on the official portal and your registered email.
