UNIUYO Convocation Ceremony 2026: Dates, Venue and What Graduands Should Know
Last updated:
Update (9 October 2026): The University Senate has confirmed the dates. The approved 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 academic calendar, released by the Registrar on 2 October 2026, fixes the 31st and 32nd convocation ceremony for 2 to 7 November 2026. The graduands list for the 31st convocation is out for verification on uniuyo.edu.ng; send complaints to registrar@uniuyo.edu.ng. The 32nd list will follow. See the full UNIUYO academic calendar.
The University of Uyo (UNIUYO) will hold its next convocation ceremony from Monday, November 2 to Saturday, November 7, 2026, at the Main Campus on Nwaniba Road, Uyo. It’ll be the first convocation under the new Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Christopher Nyong Ekong, who took office in June 2026.
The dates were announced by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations of the UNIUYO Students’ Union, in a notice signed by its director, Sen. Wisdom Essien. The ceremony will bring together graduating students, parents, staff and invited guests to celebrate their academic achievements.
| Dates | November 2 to 7, 2026 |
| Venue | Main Campus, University of Uyo, Nwaniba Road, Uyo |
| Vice-Chancellor | Prof. Christopher Nyong Ekong |
| Programme of events | Not yet released |
| Graduands list | Not yet released |
Prof. Ekong is UNIUYO’s 9th substantive Vice-Chancellor. The Governing Council announced his appointment on April 30, 2026, and he resumed on June 16, 2026, for a single five-year term. He’s a Professor of Monetary and Development Economics and has served Akwa Ibom State as Commissioner for Economic Development and Chief Economic Adviser. He took over from Prof. Nyaudoh Ndaeyo, who presided over the last convocation.
What We Don’t Know Yet
The notice doesn’t include a programme of events, the sessions to be convoked or the number of graduands. As of this writing, the university’s website, uniuyo.edu.ng, hasn’t posted these details either.
For context, UNIUYO’s last ceremony was the combined 29th and 30th convocation, held from November 4 to 9, 2024. It was a double edition because the university was clearing a backlog of graduates who hadn’t yet been convoked. It presented 12,450 graduands: 10,835 first degree holders, 1,167 postgraduate degree recipients, 411 diploma recipients and 37 certificate recipients. Of these, 174 earned first-class degrees, 56 from the 2020/2021 session and 118 from the 2021/2022 session.
Going by past ceremonies, the six days will likely include a press briefing by the Vice-Chancellor, an alumni homecoming, a convocation lecture, the inauguration of projects and the conferment of first degrees, postgraduate degrees, diplomas and honorary degrees. First degrees are often awarded across more than one day, with faculties grouped separately. The exact schedule will be confirmed in the official programme of events.
What Graduands Should Do Now
Finish your clearance with your department, faculty, library, hostel and the Bursary, since unpaid fees or unreturned books can keep you off the list. When the graduands list comes out, check your name, matriculation number, course and class of degree, and report any error to your faculty officer quickly.
Watch for the gown collection notice and pay only through channels the university names. Don’t pay anyone who promises to “fast-track” your name onto the list. Families travelling in should also book accommodation early, as Uyo gets busy during convocation week. Keep your school ID card, clearance forms and payment receipts together, since you may be asked for them at gown collection and on the ceremony day.
We’ll update this post when the programme and graduands list are released. Helping someone get into UNIUYO? See our guide on the UNIUYO Post UTME/DE registration form.
